Georgina Kent

Welcome to Devon Respiratory Physio, where we are dedicated to providing expert chest physiotherapy services tailored to the unique needs of both children and adults across the South West of England. Our founder, Georgina Kent, brings a wealth of experience and a passionate commitment to respiratory care, ensuring the highest standard of service for all our clients.

BSc Hons Physiotherapy, MSc Advanced Paediatrics: Respiratory Care

Georgina Kent is a highly skilled and experienced respiratory physiotherapist with a profound dedication to improving the lives of her patients. She graduated from St George’s University of London in 2013 with a BSc Hons in Physiotherapy and has since accumulated extensive experience across various renowned healthcare institutions.

Professional Journey

Georgina began her career as a Junior Rotational Physiotherapist at Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Trust, where she gained invaluable experience across different departments. Her passion for respiratory care led her to specialise in this field, working at prestigious institutions such as Addenbrookes Hospital, Luton and Dunstable NHS Hospital, and Child and Family Health Devon.

During her tenure at Luton and Dunstable Hospital, Georgina made significant contributions, including implementing critical changes to the Trust’s policy for intubated and ventilated children on the ward. Her innovative approach ensured that these children could continue receiving life-saving chest physiotherapy, which had previously been unavailable due to staff competency issues.

In 2019, Georgina relocated to South Devon and joined Child Family Health Devon as a community paediatric physiotherapist. Here, she managed a varied caseload, including children with musculoskeletal issues, metabolic disorders, global developmental delay, cerebral palsy, and neuromuscular conditions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she co-led a pilot programme providing respiratory care and training for children with complex needs in the community, successfully securing funding for the service.

Establishing Devon Respiratory Physio

Recognising a significant gap in services for individuals approaching transition and adults in the South West, Georgina founded Devon Respiratory Physio. Her private practice aims to provide comprehensive respiratory care and training, particularly for those who do not meet the stringent referral criteria of the limited NHS services in Torbay and South Devon.

Expertise and Skills

Georgina excels in the assessment and treatment of children and adults with complex respiratory needs, including those with poor cough reflex, scoliosis, and impaired secretion clearance. She is proficient in various chest physiotherapy techniques, including manual chest physiotherapy, cough assist devices, positive expiratory pressure, and suction.

Her commitment to professional development is evident through her completion of an MSc module in Advanced Paediatrics: Respiratory Care at UCL in 2023. Georgina is also an active member of the national Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists Respiratory Committee.
